The Posh sneaked through to the 2nd Round of the FA Cup after a slender 2-1 victory over Ryman League Premier outfit Bedford Town and now await a home tie with AFC Bournemouth.

The Posh kicked off wearing the green away kit and immediately put the pressure on their Ryman Premier League counterparts with Neale Fenn just failing to connect following a David Farrell knock back.

Posh continued to press and Farrell struck the post with a towering header after Dean Hooper had delivered a delightful centre from the by-line.

Barry Fry’s men hit the same post on 15 minutes when Fenn let fly from distance as Bedford struggled to gain a hold on the game.

Posh keeper Mark Tyler was forced into action moments later as Bedford caused panic with a free kick, Kevin Slinn heading straight into the stopper’s arms.

Andy Clarke got the goal his hard work deserved on 19 minutes when he swept the ball into the corner with pace after Fenn had cushioned the ball into his path.

It was all one way traffic and Richard Forsyth placed a header just wide of the goal after Hooper had picked out the midfielder’s run.

Bedford had a great opportunity to level the scores when Montserrat international Wayne Dyer galloped clear of the Posh defence, but goalkeeper Tyler smothered the midfielder’s shot to the relief of the London Road faithful.

The influential Dyer came close once again to levelling the scores, but his shot drifted wide of the far post buy Jimmy Bullard had the final shot of the first half, Heeps parrying the midfield man’s low drive.

In the first minute of the second half, Dyer had yet another chance to find the back of the net but his weak shot was deflected away from danger.

Bedford grabbed a deserved equaliser when Kevin Slinn powered home a header from close range following Paul Turner’s in-swinging set-piece.

However it didn’t take Posh long to level the scores, a fantastic solo run from Tom Williams created the opportunity for Clarke whose cross-shot was tapped in at the far post by Neale Fenn.

The non league minnows thought they had levelled the scores moments later after Mark Paul had slid the ball past Tyler, but the offside flag came to Posh’s rescue.

Tyler was called into action again on 69 minutes after Paul wriggled clear of Andy Edwards, the Posh stopper pushing the ball clear.

Moments later Rob Miller went clean through after Hooper misjudged a cross-field ball, only to fire over the crossbar with no defender close.

Man of the match Mark Tyler pulled another fantastic save out of the bag as he denied the rampaging Miller before Posh could start to play controlled football up until the final whistle.
