Former Posh defender Cliff Sansby dies

The Posh Supporters Trust were sad to hear that former Posh defender Cliff Sansby sadly passed away in Newcastle on Tuesday 13th February 2018 aged 83.

Born in Peterborough, Cliff was the first Peterborough born player to represent the Posh in the Football League.

Cliff was signed by Posh Manager Jimmy Hagan in July 1959 from March Town.

A versatile defender, Cliff played once in Posh’s first season in the Football League, a game which Posh won 6-2 against Doncaster Rovers in front of 16, 290 fans.

Cliff is pictured second from the left on the back row of the picture below.

When Cliff had a long stay in Newcastle Tyneside General Hospital his room was decorated with photo’s of his career and in particular his time with the Posh. The staff at the hospital were all very fond of him.

Our thoughts and condolences go to Cliff’s family at this very sad time.
