Tommy Atkin (full name Thomas Lowes Atkin)

Born 19 August 1906 − Died 1986

A right winger, Tommy was born in Darlington and started out with his home town club Darlington in 1925 who at the time were in the Second Division, having their highest ever League finish that season.

At the end of the 1926−27 season when Darlington were relegated, Tommy was transferred to First Division club Bolton Wanderers.

The following season, in 1928, he went to Doncaster Rovers in Division Three (North), the division in which he’d play for the next nine seasons. He was at Doncaster for four years, where he played 105 league and cup games.

Following this, Atkin moved back to the North East playing for Gateshead for two seasons, and then in 1934 returning to play for Darlington for three seasons.

Tommy joined the Posh in time for the start of the 1937−38 season and made his Posh Midland League debut on the opening day of that season away at Scarborough in front of a crowd of 3,143. Posh lost 5-2.

Tommy played just the one season for the Posh.

Tommy died in 1986 in his home town of Darlington.
