Score: Peterborough Utd 3 v Blackpool 2

Officials: W M Jordan

A goal in injury time from substitute Leon McKenzie sealed a remarkable comeback for Peterborough United, who came from 2-0 down after a quarter of an hour, to beat Blackpool 3-2 in a memorable Second Division match at London Road.

McKenzie came off the bench to score twice with defender Tom Williams’s also one target from a free-kick, to lift Barr Fry’s men into fourth place in the table after their fifth consecutive home win.

The visitors did not take long to open the scoring, when on seven minutes O’Kane headed in from close range unchallenged following good work from Brett Ormerod. The experienced Paul Simpson tried his luck minutes later as the Seasider’s  dominated the early proceedings, but his shot flashed inches past of Tyler’s left hand post.

The visitors were looking more and more dangerous and it came as no surprise when they doubled their lead just after the quarter hour, when John Murphy headed past Tyler following an accurate cross from Simpson.

Tyler had to be alert again moments later when Ormerod outpaced the Posh back-line, pushing the ball around the post to the relief of the frustrated home supporters.

Ormerod forced another great save from Tyler on 35 minutes before Posh scored an undeserved goal. Fenn provided the deft flick for McKenzie who rounded the goalkeeper before blasting home from close range after getting the better of Parkinson inside the 18-yard box.

Tom Williams struck the post as Posh pressed for an equaliser before half-time and Neale Fenn’s cross-cum-shot drifted wide of the far upright. Posh got a superb equaliser on 54 minutes when a neatly worked free-kick led to Tom Williams curling the ball around the wall into the corner of the net and the following few minutes saw the action swing from one end of the pitch to the other.

Posh continued to pile on the pressure with Bullard firing a long-range effort wide of the goal and the midfielder tried his luck moments later with a left-footed strike that Pullen let squirm from his body. From the rebound, McKenzie forced another fine save out of the visiting goalkeeper before Fenn again was denied by the inspired Pullen.

The home side turned the screw with on-fire McKenzie twisting and turning and his snap-shot flashed wide of the far post. Pullen pulled out a top quality save to deny Fenn’s powerful close range effort on 84 minutes just as it looked as if the former Tottenham front man had won the game for the home side.

Simpson struck a powerful effort on goal as the action switched to the end, but Tyler made no mistakes, clutching on to the ball. Posh got a winning goal a minute into stoppage time, when the influential Leon McKenzie glanced a superb header past Pullen after a fantastic cross from Bullard to send the 5,000 plus crowd into delirium.
