Born 24 April 1950 in West Ham, John’s playing career was cut short by injury and so began managing non-League clubs around his hometown area of East London, Essex and Kent where he titles with four different clubs (Leytonstone & Ilford, Dartford, Maidstone Utd and Redbridge Forest). After leading the merged Dagenham & Redbridge team to third in the Conference John took his first full-time managerial role, joining the Posh recently relegated from the 2nd Division. In his first season in charge the club finished 15th and was sacked by the club on 24 October 1995 after winning only three of our first 13 league games of the 1995–96 season. John did though give debuts to two great Posh players Adam Drury and Mark Tyler.
