Billy Hails

Born 19 February 1935 in Nettlesworth, County Durham, Billy played for the Posh from 1955 through to 1962. As a Posh player he won the Midland League title five times and the 4th Division League title in the 1960/61 season. Billy had been John Barnwell’s right-hand man whilst he was in charge at the Posh and was appointed caretaker Manager before his role was made permanent. With the team struggling to get results Billy offered his resignation to the Board which they accepted in February 1979 citing the lack of money for new players as an issue.
