John Wile

Born 9 March 1947 in Sherburn, County Durham John was a central defender and signed for the Posh in 1967–68. Having made over 130 appearance for the Posh he joined West Bromwich Albion in December 1970 where he spent more than 12 years and was club captain. After leaving WBA John returned to Peterborough as player-manager in 1983. Apart from a great FA Cup run in 1985/86 where the Posh managed to beat both Carlisle Utd and Leeds Utd as well as draw with Brighton & Hove Albion John’s record as a Manager was nowhere near as impressive as his performances for the Posh back in the 60’s. In charge whilst there was a lot of unrest at the club John was sacked by the Board following calls from shareholders for him to resign.
