Ian Ross

Born 26th January 1947 in Glasgow.

Ian’s class, commitment and performances for the Posh made him a cult hero in the 1970’s. Ian initially joined the Posh on loan from Aston Villa in December 1976. His arrival  sparked a late season revival for the Posh and it was good news for Posh fans when his move was made permanent in the close season.

As a central defender alongside Chris Turner, in the 1977/78 season the team conceded only 33 league goals as the Posh just missed out on promotion to Division 2 on goal difference.

In the 1977/78 and 1978/79 seasons Ian missed just 1 league game.

Did you know: In 1971 when at Liverpool, Bill Shankly used Ian to mark Franz Beckenbauer in a UEFA Cup quarter final game.
