Steve Welsh

Born 19th April 1968 in Glasgow

A gutsy defender who had a never say die attitude. Steve joined the Posh in August 1991 from his first club Cambridge Utd where he made just one appearance (and that as a substitute!).

Steve was a regular in the first team during the 1991/92 season making 42 league appearances. Injured in April Steve was replaced by Lee Howarth for the last 3 League games and first leg semi-final play-off game. He did however return to the side for the 2nd leg of the play-off game at Huddersfield Town.

Keeping his place for the Wembley play-off final Steve was injured during the second half and replaced by Lee Howarth. At the end of the game he hopped on the pitch to celebrate Posh’s 2-1 victory to take the Posh to the 2nd tier of the Football League for the first time in the club’s history.

Did you know: Steve served in the British Army before embarking on his football career.
