Lee Howarth

Born 3rd January 1968 in Bolton

Signed by Posh boss Chris Turner from non-league side Chorley in August 1991 Lee was a reliable centre-half.

Despite only making 7 appearances for the Posh in the 1991/92 season Lee was named as one of the substitutes for the 1992 Wembley play-off final against Stockport County. He was called upon to replace the injured Steve Welsh in the second half of the game and it was shortly before the famous Ebdon to Charlery pass which led to King Kenny’s second goal which sealed Posh’s 2-1 win that Lee made himself a real Posh cult hero.

Lee made a miraculous goal line clearance that ensured Posh did not end the day as Wembley losers. A deep cross to the far post was heading towards the head of 6ft 7ins Stockport County centre forward Kevin Francis, who only a minute earlier had scored their equaliser when Lee threw himself at the ball somehow intercepted the pass. The rest is history!

Did you know: Lee moved to Mansfield Town from Posh in August 1994 for £15,000.
