Ian Bennett

Born 10th October 1971 in Worksop.

Ian started his football career as a YTS trainee at QPR and turned professional with Newcastle Utd in March of the same season.

Having never making a single first-team appearance for either club, Ian signed for the Posh in March 1991.

Ian still had to wait though until April 1992 before making his first team debut which was a televised Autoglass Trophy semi-final game against Stoke City.

Sadly for Ian he did not make the team later that season for the 1991/92 Wembley play-off final against Stockport County but he did make the number 1 shirt his own the following season as he played in every league game in the Posh’s first season in the 2nd tier of the Football League.

His performances attracted a lot of interest from bigger clubs and it came as no surprise, though a lot of disappointment for many Posh fans, that in December 1993 Ian was sold to Birmingham City for £325,000.

Did you know: Ian was in goal for Huddersfield Town when on the 29th May 2011 Posh beat them 3-0 at Old Trafford in the Division 1 Play-off final.
