Former Posh player Bob Doyle dies

The Posh Supporters Trust were sad to hear that former Posh player Bob Doyle died on the 26th February 2019 aged 65.

Born in Dumbarton, Scotland, Bob was signed by Noel Cantwell in July 1976 for £20,000 from Barnsley. Soon becoming a Posh favourite, Bob was voted Posh player of the season twice and was in the side that missed out on promotion to Division 2 on goal difference.

A fine passer, Bob was a stylish midfielder who scored his fair share of goals for the Posh. In total Bob made 130 League, 8 FA and 18 FL Cup appearances for the Posh.

Our thoughts and condolences go to Bob’s family at this very sad time.

Former Posh player Ian Ross dies

The Posh Supporters Trust were sad to hear that former Posh player Ian Ross died on the 9th February 2019 aged 72.

Ian made his debut for Liverpool and played for Aston Villa (where captained their side to promotion to the 1st Division and League Cup final).

He had spells on loan at Notts County and Northampton Town before joining the Posh in December 1976.

He made over 100 appearances during two-and-a-half seasons, in which he also served the club in a coaching role.

After Posh he joined First Division Wolverhampton Wanderers primarily as a coach, following former Posh manager John Barnwell. He stepped in as caretaker manager after Barnwell’s sacking in January 1982, taking charge of five games.

Our thoughts and condolences go to Ian’s family at this very sad time.
